GenZ Publishing, New Jersey  |  April 2017 – present

Senior Administrator, Assistant Editor (under the name L. Austen Johnson)

  • Managed interns and marketing assistants. 

  • Acted as a beta-reader and editor for various genres, including contemporary novels, young adult fiction, and poetry collections (e.g. Amazon bestseller Ozark Howler).

  • Designed promotional graphics, press packets, and book covers using Adobe Design Suite. 

  • Wrote blog articles, press releases, and social media posts. 

  • Supervised a team to assess new book queries.

 

The Flowerdew Hundred Collection, Charlottesville, VA  |   Jan. 2016 – Jan. 2017

Undergraduate Researcher

  • Developed research problems to study.

  • Catalogued and measured artifacts and documents, most notably colonial-era pipe stems.

  • Studied and implemented preservation techniques of artifacts.

  • Assisted the curator in managerial tasks, such as scanning documents, managing Flowerdew's Facebook page, and organizing the lab.

Intern and Researcher via The Institute for Public History

  • Worked with university archival materials (official university records as well as letters/diaries by students/faculty and early university publications).

  • Learned and implemented document transcription and editing, XML coding/document mark-up, and navigation of a relational database.

  • Wrote primary-source-based research papers, which are posted on the JUEL website.

 

Archaeotek Roman Imperial Excavation, Sarmizegetusa, Hunedoara County, Transylvania, Romania  |  July – August 2015

Excavator (Field School)

  • Excavated the Domus Procuratoris at Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa (1st century CE)

  • Explored the history of Roman Dacia through a lecture series

  • Wrote a research report as part of an independent study.
